How to Negotiate a Salary Offer With a Script and Template
Most candidates accept the first number. Use a calm script, market data, and our salary slip template to negotiate with confidence.
The first salary number is a starting point, not a verdict. Candidates who negotiate once typically gain 10 to 20 percent, and the cost of asking is usually just a short, polite conversation that most employers expect.
Prepare before you speak Know the market range for the role and city. Use job boards and recent offers as anchors. Enter the talk with a target number and a walk-away floor, so you do not accept out of nerves or accept less than you planned.
A simple negotiation script "I am excited about the role. Based on the scope and market data for similar positions in [city], I was expecting a range closer to Rs X. Is there flexibility on the fixed component?" That frames the ask around market, not need, which lands better with a manager.
What to negotiate beyond base - Sign-on bonus to bridge a gap. - Variable weight, push for more fixed. - Benefits: insurance, learning budget, remote days.
If base is stuck, these alternatives still raise total value, and they are often easier for a manager to approve than a higher fixed pay.
